About Capitol Comedy

Capitol Comedy logo full (005).jpg

Capitol Comedy is a performance group that uses the winning formula of musical comedy and political satire to engage audiences in an entertainment that is hilarious, insightful and non-partisan. Our shows take on political leaders and other public figures with songs and sketches poking fun at everything from diversity decisions to dumping dollars on the electorate.

Capitol Comedy combines parodies with new lyrics to old standards and original compositions to create a lively musical program. Interspersing musical numbers with short sketches and “news
updates”, the shows find the humor in the latest political and social issues.

The six-person cast is composed of talented actor-singers and dancers with Hollywood, regional theater and off-Broadway experience. Their considerable performance skills include the ability to channel a range of political and other public figures.

Capitol Comedy shows are timely and sharply satirical without being demeaning or vulgar. Since there is plenty on both the right and the left that needs criticism and evokes laughter, we aim for material that will be appreciated by and amusing to audience members whatever their political persuasion.

Take My Candidate

"Every four years it emerges,

Politicians get Primary Urges.

They believe that they're hot,

though the polls say they're not.

Raw ambition from reason diverges."

So begins Capitol Comedy's latest show, "Take My Candidate... Please!" opening on Friday, September 8th at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre in Rockville. Md. After a successful national tour in 2022-2023, the troupe now takes aim at the recent foibles of public figures and is a great lead-in to the media frenzy otherwise known as the 2024 Presidential race. Filled with parodies of familiar songs, impersonations of political "stars" and "real" fake news, the show manages to produce laughter and good cheer from a Presidential contest that many Americans are anticipating with dread. It provides a break from daily grind of stress-inducing news as these talented actors sing, dance, and joke their way across the political and social spectrum, targeting left, right, center, Red, Blue, and everything in between.

Laura Foti Cohen, Larchmont Buzz  10/20/21

"The actors do excellent impressions of their subjects—especially Aaron Matijasic as Bernie Sanders and Sarah Oliver as Mitch McConnell. Bella Gil as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is a musical theater star. Alivia Long is a dancing, singing Kamala Harris. Travis Joe Dixon plays a befuddled Joe Biden."

Elaine Mura, L.A. Splash 10/6/21
"From ridiculous to hilarious, Capitol Comedy nails it with sidesplitting stupidity and uproarious humor. This quirky, eccentric production puts the spotlight on a witty, waggish Washington as it dissects today’s real Comedy Central right here in D.C."

Morna Murphy Martell, Theatre Spoken Here 10/14/21
"What raises this show above the amiability of its attack are the excellent ensemble performers, all who play multiple roles. There is…
