PRIMARY URGES

City in a Swamp Players are back with two special performances of their well-received musical comedy political satire, “Primary Urges.” With a new set of original songs and sketches by Nicholas Zill and Howard Bennett, “Primary Urges” takes a tuneful, laugh-filled look at our ridiculous system of choosing a president. The show skewers candidates of all persuasions as it tells the story of Floyd Flotsam, the “least important member of Congress.”  Flotsam dives into the primaries as a way of raising his standing on the Hill. With the aid of a devilish political consultant, his candidacy proves surprisingly successful, especially when he advocates “Medi-Kitty”, a government-paid health care program for pets.

“Primary Urges” features Doug Smith as Flotsam, Michael Bruno as the political consultant, and Rachael Goldman as an off-key Hillary Clinton. Supporting cast members include Marilyn Bennett, Mary Jean Bruno and Michael Miyazaki, with choreography by Nkemjika Ofodile. Musical accompaniment is provided by Barbara Twigg on piano, Kirt Vener on clarinet, and Stan Ismart on drums.
